An important aspect of David Pflieger’s revitalization effort has been the development of a new management team, accompanied by restructuring designed to maximize operational efficiencies. The bottom line result has been a lean and tightly managed organization that effectively oversees more than 900 employees and a competitive fleet of 15 aircraft.
Mr. Pflieger has also expended significant effort in upgrading Air Pacific and its regional-carrier subsidiary Pacific Sun’s fleet capacities. Obtaining $200 million in funding, he has grounded all BN-2 Islander aircraft, adding additional B737-800 and DH-6 Twin Otter aircraft. He has also secured three delivery slots for new A330-200 aircraft. As a cost saving measure at a time of record fuel prices, David Pflieger has developed and implemented the airline’s first-ever fuel conservation program.
Mr. Pflieger’s re-envisioning of the Air Pacific Ltd. managerial approach has been a major financial success, with the carrier reducing the scope of its operating losses from F$3m to F$91m in an 11 month period.
