In 2011, Nginx decided to formally incorporate the company. At that time, Nginx’s mission was to keep on developing and maintaining the company’s open source distribution. Because Nginx is formally recognized as a business entity, the company will also provide commercialized subscriptions and professional services to customers in production environments.
Aside from subscriptions and services, Nginx also provides consultancy services. It assists its clients in customizing configuration, and adding more features. Consultancy services are offered by the company’s original developers and creators.
In February 2012, the Netcraft Web Server Survey listed Nginx as “the only server to experience a non-negligible market share increase.” That month, Nginx had 7.57% market share, which is equivalent to 21 million domains Nginx has hosted. A better picture is revealed when Nginx performance is viewed alongside that of Microsoft and Apache. For the same period, Microsoft’s market share was 20.04% or 57 Million domains while that of Apache was 60.1% or 171 million domains. Considering that Nginx is just more than a decade old, the performance was excellent.
Moving on to February 2013, Netcraft reported that Nginx’s market share grew to 9.89% or 60 million domains. Microsoft’s share dropped to 14.38% or 88 million domains while Apache remained stable at 64.92% or 397 million domains. In just one year, Nginx’s growth represented additional 40 million domains.here to edit.
