Founded in 1958, Pizza Hut was started by brothers Frank and Dan Carney in Wichita, Kansas. A friend suggested they open a pizza parlor, a rare sight at the time, so the two decided to give it a shot thinking it could be successful. Partnering with John Bender, the Carney brothers borrowed $600 from their mother and rented a building in downtown Wichita. After acquiring secondhand equipment for making pizzas, the first Pizza Hut restaurant was officially opened. To encourage community interest, they gave away pizza on their opening night. In 1959, Pizza Hut was incorporated and the restaurant's first franchise opened in Topeka. Pizza Hut operates under different restaurant formats, combining family-style dine-in locations with store front delivery and carry out locations in different branches while operating hybrid outlets that offer dine-it, carry-out, and delivery options. A lot of the full-size Pizza Hut locations also feature lunch buffets, while others feature expanded menus and more upscale choices under the "Bistro" name. "The Hut" and "Pizza Hut Express" locations are categorized as fastfood restaurants. The oldest operating Pizza Hut location in the world is found in Manhattan, Kansas. They also let customers choose the services they wanted so they were able to make each 20-minute visit unique, catering exactly to what the customer wanted and what they can afford. The network also provided the needed research for NBC’s coverage of the MLB postseason. BY 1989, the network also worked for ESPN.
From its initial focus on baseball, Stats slowly expanded to include other leagues such as the National Basketball Association (NBA), the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), the National Football League (NFL), and the National Hockey League (NHL). In 2013, tourism was one of the most booming industries in China. It generated revenues amounting to $500 billion and is expected to hit $1.2 trillion by 2023. These facts inspired Mei Zhang to establish WildChina to provide new choices to high-end domestic tourism in China. Unlike other boutique agencies, WildChina caters to small groups so that the tourist becomes overwhelmed with the destination, not the other way around.
WildChina opens the door to destinations which have been inaccessible in the past. In its portfolio of tour packages, WildChina offers unique trips which include retracing the old trade routes in the Horse Caravan Road and the Ancient Tea, and through the thick bamboo forests where the tourists go through the habitat of China’s giant pandas. With her background in Western education, Mei plans to expand WildChina to international markets. Last year, WildChina was able to bring Chinese to more than 15 countries. 2013 was also a great season for WildChina after it received a number of prestigious awards, including Top Travel Specialist by Condé Nast Traveler and A-List Travel Agent by Travel+Leisure. The 1960s was a decade that can easily be described as the period of “cultural revolution” in China. During this time, it was quite dangerous to pursue high fashion and international influence in China. Many things, embroidery included, were destroyed during this period.
Guo Pei, who was born in 1967 in Beijing, witnessed these things unfold. So when Guo established her business named Rose Studio in 1999, one of the first difficulties she hurdled was finding a skilled craftsman to do embroidery. Apparently, Guo succeeded in facing her giant because of the 500 Rose Studio employees working for her today, 150 are embroiders and 150 are sewing technicians, pattern makers and designers. Rose Studio is the first choice of Chinese celebrities for their elaborate gowns. For instance, in the Beijing 2000 Summer Olympics opening ceremonies, singer Song Zuying’s dress was designed by Rose Studio – a gown adorned with 200,000 pieces of hand-sewn Awarovski diamonds. For the first time in September 2013, Guo had the opportunity to showcase her designs in the US at the inaugural China Fashion Night gala held in New York. It was report that a table reservation for the event was priced between $10,000 and $30,000. But this is way beyond the prices of Guo’s gowns which start at $80,000. In order to reach the lower bracket of clients, Rose Studio opened a new store in Shanghai – one with a different mindset. The Shanghai store caters to the rapidly-growing upper middle class brides, offering demi-couture bridal gowns. With this move, Rose Studio offered the first accessible couture designs in China. Rose Studio has also attracted many international celebrities with its Chinese culture-inspired couture. Among its international clientele are Chinese model and actress Zhang Ziyi and American artist and songwriter Lady Gaga. In an industry primarily dominated by French couture houses such as Jean Paul Gaul, Chanel and Dior, Guo has set up a healthy rivalry, making Rose Studio a real contender as the first Chinese haute couture with international dimensions.
