The first Supercuts location was in Albany, California, opened by Geoffrey Rappaport and Frank Emmett in 1975 as an alternative to barbershops in the neighborhood and high-fashion salons in the area. By developing a way to cut hair in just 20 minutes, the two were able to offer quick and affordable haircuts without the need to make an appointment. They also let customers choose the services they wanted so they were able to make each 20-minute visit unique, catering exactly to what the customer wanted and what they can afford. With a standardized business model in play, Rappaport and Emmett began franchising Supercuts in 1979.
