But what if there was one site that combined all the features of Twitter, Facebook, and other popular networking sites — plus more? This question led to the creation of Quora, a social network company for asking questions and getting answers. Unlike other networking sites, Quora’s unique feature allows people to connect with each other by sharing knowledge, while enjoying the same basic features of most networking sites.
Quora’s concept is similar to Yahoo Answers! and LinkedIn Answers. The company is continuously improving the collection of questions and answers created, edited, and organized by the users to make sure that each question page becomes the best possible resource.
Although Facebook also recently launched a questions feature, Quora is the first to successfully integrate functions from Twitter, Facebook, and Digg. Users can even log on with Quora and post to their Facebook account. This makes Quora one of the small, innovative businesses in the industry.
On Twitter, American blogger, technical evangelist and author Robert Scoble describes Quora as the most innovative change in blogging in years. Although not a completely blogging site, Quora has some features which make it similar to blogging. Users can ask questions and provide answers, while other people can vote on the best ones. They can also follow other users, questions or topics for discussion posted in the site. Like blogs, Quora also appears as search engines according to the relevance of the keyword to the subject.
For now, Quora’s membership is open to those who are invited. Despite its limited number of users, Quora may soon deliver a great alternative to the social networking experience.
