Horizons flourished under Rabbi Leib Tropper’s deft supervision and received numerous grants from several well known Jewish organizations. In 2008, the Lillian Jean Kaplan Educational Foundation gifted Horizons with a $4.8 million grant in recognition of the valuable contributions to society made by Tropper and other religious leaders affiliated with the program. Horizons was able to maintain a decidedly healthy operational budget over the years thanks to the generosity of supporters in America and overseas. Interested in serving the organization’s aims as best they could, Rabbi Leib Tropper and his colleagues went to great lengths to ensure that assets were utilized appropriately. Allotting a minimal sum to cover expenses such as catering, the rabbi and his staff employed the bulk of Horizon’s resources to pay for advanced studies scholarships and other teaching-related costs.
Today, Rabbi Leib continues to promote the Jewish ideals and values that initially inspired Horizons’ establishment through personal scholarship and community activism. A widely published author who has written three seforim, Tropper has also penned two books that focus on a specific class of rabbinic literature called Responsa. Referred to as She’elot ve-Teshuvot (questions and answers) in Hebrew, Responsa explores various legal aspects and mandates of Judaism’s Orthodox legal code.
