The company’s 26,000 world-class employees are producing first-rate engineering designs and construct both non-cryogenic and cryogenic supply systems worldwide.
Praxair’s subsidiary, the Praxair Surface Technology, is applying ceramic and metallic coatings and powers to metallic surfaces to fight corrosion and resist high temperature and wear.
The gases Praxair is supplying help diverse industries – food preservation, manufacture of computer chips, increase in efficiency of industrial procedures and processes, reduction of smoke emissions, cleaning and recycling of water wastes, treatment of hospital patients, cleaner burned transportation fuels, increase the supply of energy, and put bubbles in soda.
Praxair leads the world in sustainable development. In fact, Praxair is the only American chemical company that has become a component of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for a decade now. For four years now, the company is chosen for the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index of the Carbon Disclosure Project.
The name “Praxair” is derived from the Greek word “praxis” which literally means practical application. “Air” represents the company’s primary material. The name Praxair was officially adapted in 1992.
Praxair started in North America in 1907as a company that sells cryogenically-separated oxygen. Over the last century, Praxair has led a revolution that would develop the technologies and processes used by the industry of industrial gases. It was back in 1917 when the company first introduced a system to distribute liquid gas after the World War II. It was in the 60s when Praxair developed non-cryogenic air separation procedures. Since then, Praxair has continued to innovate application solutions that many industries in the world can use. This is evident in Praxair’s patents and its ending patent applications, totaling close to 4,000 in all.
