Valeo’s rise to success started when the company began to aggressively engage in expansions by acquiring numerous global companies. Among the most recent acquisition included Johnson Control’s electronics division in France. At present, Valeo’s operations are focused on four business segments. The Comfort and Driving Assistance Systems segment produces interior controls and security systems; the Powertrain Systems segment manufactures engine and electrical systems and transmissions; the Thermal Systems segment provides climate controls, engine cooling solutions and compressors; and the Visibility Systems segment supplies wiper systems and lighting systems.
In 2006, Valeo was involved in a 10-year penal procedure. The whole corporation, its board, and its corporate physician were implicated in homicide for its failure to provide assistance to a person in danger in the century-old asbestos scandal where hundreds of people have died. This led Valeo to implement the highest level of health security standards. Valeo has been monitoring its employees including its retired workers. The policy was ratified by the French national government as an agreement in April 2009.
As of 2012, Valeo operates in 28 countries with 124 manufacturing facilities, 12 distribution points, 40 development centers and 21 research centers. Valeo employs about 68,000 workers worldwide. Among Valeo’s leading customers include Skoda, Audi, Volkswagen, Mercedes Benz, SAAB, Nissan, Opel, Renault and Toyota.
