For more than a decade now, India has been fighting poverty by way of social welfare services to poor communities. But in a country with a population of 1.2 billion, only 200 million people have been issued with driver’s license. The rest go about without a legitimate ID. This is a major contributor to the rampant corruption in India.
Infosys founder Nandan Nilekani, with the backing of India’s government, has developed a robust ID system. This is the first of its kind in the world. The IDs may be verified online. These IDs may be used at any time and in any time, including travels. To date, UIA has issued more than 450 million IDs.
UIA is using tamper-free information such as fingerprints, iris scan, and a 12-digit ID number. The ID is tied to a bank account. The IDs may be used for banking transactions and guarantees a safe and secure banking because of its robust security features.
