Swaine Adeney Brigg is composed of two main divisions: Swaine Adeney for leather goods and Brigg for umbrellas. The Brigg Umbrella itself is a classic, made using handsome, solid woods like oak, hickory or maple for the handle and nylon or silk for the canopy. The quintessential British gentleman's umbrella, Brigg umbrellas can be customized to hide a flask, unscrewed for packing in a suitcase, engraved with one's initials or made with lace for a lady's parasol. Swaine Adeney is also the home of the original Indiana Jones fedora or Poet Hat, commissioned by no less than director Steven Spielberg and actor Harrison Ford in 1980. The hat that the company made parachuted to fame with the billion-dollar success of the movie franchise, and has reached iconic status among hats. To this day, dozens of Indiana Jones hats are made by Swaine Adeney for fans.
As a company, Swaine Adeney Brigg was granted its first Royal Appointment in 1893, becoming the first umbrella maker to receive a commission for Queen Victoria. The company now holds Royal Warrants of Appointment, one as “Whip and Glovemakers” to Queen Elizabeth II and “Supplier of Umbrellas” to HRH The Prince of Wales. In 2011, the company supplied a large number of leather goods for the royal and state chariots and carriages during the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton. Swaine Adeney Brigg remains an honored manufacturer committed to nothing but the finest and the best in the business.
