Today, the distributor has operations in 35 states including the original Florida market where it all began. The Southern Wine & Spirits headquarters is also located in Miami, Florida. The first expansion happened in 1969 and the most current was in 2008 when Southern Wine & Spirits entered Delaware. In 2010, it was announced that a joint venture was in the works with Minnesota's J.J. Taylor Distributing Company and Washington, DC and Maryland's Frederick P. Winner Ltd. The partnerships ended in early 2013 though and since then Southern Wine & Spirits has been operating independent, wholly-owned subsidiaries in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Minnesota. Operating licenses are also in effect for the distributor in Texas and Nebraska.
Since it began, Southern Wine & Spirits has always set out to be the most progressive and innovator in all of the marketplaces it would enter. Overall, the distributor has over 14,500 employees across its 6,000-mile reach extending from Maui to Maine and Anchorage to Miami. The work that these individuals do translates to more than 1,500 wine, spirits, beverage, and beer suppliers from around the world distributing, merchandising, and promoting more than 5,000 individual brands. On typical work week, it's not unusual for Southern Wine & Spirits to serve more than 180,000 restaurant and retail customers all over the US. An integral part to the distributor's growth is its drive to build brands and maintain the highest levels of sales, operational, and marketing excellence.
