Founded in 2008, GitHub is arguably the world’s most popular repository site for source codes. Its social networking-like functions provide followers and feeds. A network graph that displays the progress of a developer’s work is also provided to repositories.
GitHub also operates the Gist, a site that works like a pastebin. Gist provides individual repositories with wikis. It also provides web pages that allow editing through the Git repository. GitHub also operates Speaker Deck, a slide hosting service; and, Gauges, a platform for web analytics.
Records have shown the GitHub’s growth rate was 300% yearly since 2008. For private code hosting, GitHub charges monthly fees of $7 which is good for five repositories. Repositories of up to 125 are also available at $200 per month.
GitHub is based in San Francisco, California.
