NimbleTV provides a quite intriguing service – access to cable TV subscription on any device with screen and can detect internet connection. NimbleTV signs up a subscriber to a new account, provide the cable hardware, and push the TV shows into the cloud. All channels can be accessed through any device that is internet connected and HTML 5 compatible.
One of the most exciting phases of NimbleTV’s service is the possibility of subscribing to a pay-TV service from anywhere in the world. International subscribers and expats in the US can subscribe to NimbleTV and access the TV shows from anywhere worldwide.
One of the greatest challenges NimbleTV faced was how to deal with the reaction of cable companies. According to NimbleTV CEO Anand Subramanian, talks with cable companies have turned out to be successful. Acceptance by the cable companies was easier because of the precedence of SlingBox, which is known to placeshift contents for more than ten years now.
Another positive effect of NimbleTV was the breakdown of the monopoly of cable service. Because cable service can be accessed anywhere, cable services in rural areas tend to lower down subscription rates, undercutting cable companies in many large cities. The natural effect was for cable companies in urban areas to cut down on their subscription fees.
At present, NimbleTV operates in beta. Twenty six networks are accessible through NimbleTV. Cable service subscribers continue to pay their subscription fees. On its part, NimbleTV charges a minimal fee of $20 for the set up and management service. Subramanian said NimbleTV is a groundbreaking technology, making access to TV anywhere at any time a reality.
