Evernote software is compatible with major operating systems like Microsoft Windows, Chrome OS, iOS, OS X, Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone and webOS. Evernote also provides backup systems and online synchronizations.
In June 2008, Stepan Pachikov founded Evernote as a web service on open beta. Evernote users reached 11 million by July 2011. Its startup operations were financed by world renowned investors led by Sequoia Capital. Other investors who poured in money for Evernote were DoCoMo Capital and Morgenthaler Ventures. Total initial investments amounted to $20 million. In the succeeding years, Sequoia, Morgenthaler added another $50 million. Subsequent investments from Valiant capital Partners and AGD Equity Partners amounted to $85 million. All in all, Evernote raised a total of $225 million in investments since its founding in 2008.
Aside from the paid version, Evernote is also available on restricted free version. With internet access, Evernote users can access their accounts and have their notes synchronized with the master copies kept on the servers. Accessing and editing of notes can be done across multiple devices and operating systems wherever internet connection is available. In the absence of a client software, Evernote customers with online accounts may access their archives through a media device or web interface.
Users may also opt to download the Evernote software and use the system as a stand-alone and not use the online functions of the account. However, initial registration may be required to be done online. Stand-alone Evernote software disables uploading files into the server and likewise disables synchronization and sharing with other Evernote installations. Offline software cannot recognize and index images and PDF files as well.
