In 2007, BCMF Arquitetos finished the Deodoro Sports Complex for the Rio 2007 Pan American Games. In 2010, BCMF Arquitetos became the recipient of the Model Medal during the First IAKS LAC Awards for the Latin American and Caribbean section. It also won a special prize in the IOC/IAKS 2011 Awards held in Cologne, Germany.
BCMF Arquitetos’ expertise has been recognized through the many commissions granted to the company in many instances. From 2008 to 2009, for instance, the Brazilian Organizing Committee has commissioned BCMF Arquitetos to develop a comprehensive concept study for the Rio 2016 candidature. In 2010, the Minas Arena Consortium also commissioned BCMF Arquitetos to renovate the Mineirão Stadium, one of the venues for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. These commissions made BCMF Arquitetos the first Brazilian architecture company to participate in three major sports events: the 2007 Pan American Games, the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the upcoming 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.
BCMF Arquitetos’ most recent accomplishment was its design for the first solar-powered stadium in the world: the Mineirão Stadium in Belo Horizonte. As earlier stated, BCMF Arquitetos renovated the stadium last summer. Instead of scrapping the entire building which dates back to its original design in the 1960s, BCMF Arquitetos added a new roof equipped with a 1.4 megawatt solar panels. BCMF Arquitetos also lowered the pitch of the stadium. It also upgrade other infrastructure within the building by adding new shops and a football museum. The stadium also features a rainwater harvester that cuts down its water consumption significantly.
